Bradley House

History of Bradley House

Welcome to my family home, Bradley House. My ancestor, Sir Edward Seymour, Lord Protector of the Realm and Brother of Jane Seymour, 3rd Queen of Henry VIII, and Uncle to King Edward VI, was given the land surrounding the House in recognition of his services to the Tudor monarchy as soldier, diplomat and Brother-in-law, in 1537.

The House itself, however, was not built until around 1680 when another ancestor was Speaker in the House of Commons and found it more convenient than his other House in Devon, Berry Pomeroy Castle.

The original House was a lot larger until 1821 when three-quarters was pulled down. Since then the Family has lived and brought up children in both Berry Pomeroy and Maiden Bradley. The House contains fascinating memorabilia of the Family's activities over 500 years, whilst remaining a warm and welcoming family home. I look forward to sharing it with you.
